This week, we were deep in the Launch Prep Zone, trying to bring our Future Self (successful, launched course creator) into the Now.
We had an infinite organizing power, a system, and a roadmap!
Yet, we found ourselves trapped in the Valley of Perfection. That’s where Motion (planning, tweaking CSS, debating fonts) pretends to be Action (actually publishing the darn thing).
Our conscious mind kept telling us: "I might fail! The code isn't perfect! People will laugh at the accordion design!" We were full of fears and doubts. We were focusing on the result instead of trusting the system.
We needed to shift from analyzing the obstacle to concentrating on the means to overcome the problem.
Our saving grace was the Two-Minute Rule applied to launching. We committed to two minutes of irrevocable action: hit "Publish" on one small, imperfect page.
It felt scary, but the immediate Reward was the sudden rush of forward momentum. We realized that true long-term thinking is goal-less thinking—it's about the cycle of endless refinement.
The current website isn't perfect, but we launched because repetition, not perfection, which is the key to mastering a habit. We chose action over anxiety.
What is your current "Motion vs. Action" challenge?
